The Helix: Krix’s latest in-ceiling loudspeaker

Krix has announced the Helix flush mount in-ceiling loudspeaker: a new addition to their concealed speaker range.

Taking design cues from the larger Stratospherix, the Helix provides high performance in a compact package. Both IP54 rated models provide the flexibility of outdoor installation, while the semi-enclosed construction results in a loudspeaker with an extremely efficient bass response and a minimal 86mm mounting depth.

The Helix features a high-grade 20mm (½”) dome tweeter that is concentrically mounted within the voice coil of the bass driver, providing uniform dispersion for room-filling sound. Alongside this, is a 150mm (6”) bass/mid driver with a durable polypropylene cone and an oversized, low distortion magnet system.  The added advantage of this configuration is that the tweeter is less affected by reverse reflections, improving performance across its operating range.

Because it is built from weather resistant materials and boasts a rust resistant stainless steel grille, the Helix is suitable for installation outside under alfresco areas and in eaves, or anywhere inside the house including bathrooms and ensuites. The semi-enclosed design means that the moving parts of the speaker are protected from dust and other ceiling contaminants while providing excellent bass performance for such a low profile speaker.

The ‘twist and lock’ mounting system with fixed grille allows for easy installation. Simply cut out the hole, connect the speaker cables and then twist into place.

With compact and discrete speakers growing in popularity, the Helix will appeal to a large market with its small overall diameter of 180mm and cut out size of 164mm. The low profile, white paintable grille with slim-line bevel edge matches the Krix architectural range of concealed audio solutions.
