US-based residential door hardware brand Kwikset has announced it has teamed up with Amazon to provide renters and homeowners with two smart lock solutions to choose from when purchasing an Amazon Key In-Home Kit.
Amazon Key is a new service that allows Amazon Prime members in 37 cities and surrounding areas in the US to receive in-home delivery and grant secure home access for guests using the Amazon Cloud Cam and a compatible smart lock.
Kwikset, which is part of the Hardware and Home Improvement (HHI) division of Spectrum Brands Holdings, will offer two distinct smart lock solutions as part of the Amazon Key In-Home Kit, the Kwikset Convert and the Kwikset SmartCode 914.
The Kwikset Convert is a smart lock conversion kit for renters and homeowners who are unable to or don’t want to replace their door hardware, while the Kwikset SmartCode 914 is a touchpad smart lock that replaces an existing deadbolt.
Once these locks have been installed, Amazon Prime members will be able to use the Amazon Key app to lock or unlock their Kwikset smart lock from anywhere, check the lock status and receive lock notifications. Member will also be able to grant home access to friends, family and others using the Amazon Key app.
“Kwikset offers both smart locks and smart lock conversion kits as part of the Amazon Key In-Home Kit and we’re excited for Prime members to experience the benefits of a Kwikset smart lock solution as part of the new service,” says Spectrum Brands hardware and home improvement division vice president of residential access solutions Keith Brandon.
