Wavetrain’s winning design ‘Arcadia’ involved the conversion of a two-car garage into an arcade-inspired entertainment space with a ‘lobby’ and the retention of access from the street.
The retrofit project saw Wavetrain design and document all work including architectural drawings, interior design, HVAC and ventilation, acoustic engineering, and more. Working hand-in-hand with the builder, they ensured their plans were followed to the letter.
Sound isolation was a big factor in the project. The client has neighbours nearby and there was a built-in vacuum system just above the cinema. The system’s pipework was moved up an entire level to keep noise out of the theatre.
The 9.2.6 audio system is complemented by careful speaker placement for perfect dialog and excellent spatial effects.
Another challenge was equipment ventilation for that rack located in the cupboard in the bar which is not air-conditioned and has east facing glass that gets a lot of morning sun.
Wavetrain installed a three-fan unit cut into the top of the cupboard which remains switched on at all times. A 20mm gap under the door allows air to be drawn through the rack and out the top of the cupboard.
